Salima Kassam Registered Chiropodist Hopedale Shopping Centre Suite 220, 2nd Floor Dr. Rosenblat D.D.S. 905-827-0301 905-845-2291 Q: A: I'd like to start a new fitness routine, but I find my knees and feet tend to hurt with increased activity. Is there something that can be done for the pain? Q: A: My teeth are very sensitive. What causes this and what can I do? Becoming more active and fit is generally always good for your health. Pain however, isn't. There are many possible reasons for your pain, including alignment issues stemming from the foot, joint issues such as arthritis or even possibly an old trauma to the area. Treatment for pain in the limbs when active can range from modifying the type of activity to realigning your walking style. Issues at the knee very commonly start at the foot level and can travel all the way up to the back. Custom made foot inserts, also known as orthotics, will realign your walking pattern and redistribute high pressure areas so as not to stress the various joints (ankles, knees, hips, back) throughout the lower limb. If pain is a cause of concern, your Chiropodist can provide you with a thorough lower leg assessment, specific shoe recommendations for your foot-type and individual treatment plans to help alleviate your pain. Tooth sensitivity can be a complicated problem, triggered by things like, hot, cold, sweet foods or just cold air. Tooth sensitivity is often due to the underlying layer of your teethdentine-being exposed. Commonly gum recession exposes the tooth roots where there is no enamel coverage and detine is exposed. Heavy tooth brushing with a hard brush can worsen this as can acidic foods or some mouth washes. Acids and wear can erode enamel exposing detine too. Dentine is porous and if exposed lets irritants affect the nerve inside the tooth. Gum disease and grinding teeth, can also be a cause. There are some things you can do to reduce tooth sensitivity. Use a soft brush properly and thoroughly. A desensitizing fluoride tooth paste used regularly and fluoride mouth rinses often are all that is needed. Avoid tartar control toothpastes and tooth whitening products which can cause or exacerbate sensitivity. If you are a tooth grinder or clencher, removing the stress from teeth with a professional dental niteguard can help and protect your teeth from wear and ease the pressure on your jaw joints. Watch what you eat for acidic foods and drinks like carbonated beverages. Of course, see your dentist regularly for examination and hygiene treatment and fluoride to help maintain your dental health, and find problems before they are causing pain. We can also apply sealers or bonded white fillings to sensitive areas to protect and prevent irritants from causing tooth sensitivity. Remember great things start with a warm healthy smile! Pachler Optometrist Oak Park 85 Navy St., Oakville STEVE BOURIKAS Q: A: Cataracts - What are they? (905) 844-7600 The eye's natural lens, which lies behind the iris, focuses light onto the retina at the back of the eye. The lens works much like a camera lens, adjusting the eye's focus allowing us to see things clearly both up close and far away. A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye. Instead of focusing the light, a cataract scatters the light and allows some colours to pass through to the retina more easily than others: thus making it more difficult to focus on objects and distorting colours. Q: A: www.canadiansound.com Why Should I Consider a Home Theatre Remote Control System? I always listed my interests and hobbies. Why is that not applicable now? : A resume is marketing tool that is supposed to capture your most relevant work experience, skills, education and achievements on paper, preferably no more than 2 pages in length. A resume's purpose is like a brochure; the employer reads the information and decides if this is a product worth investigating further. If you are able to be clear and concise and use terminology relevant to your industry, you are making it easy for the employer to ask you in for an interview. As for including your interests and hobbies as a category in your resume, this really does not reflect your skills and experience. However, if you can present these as relevant skills that would enhance your candidacy, you can include them with your other achievements or accomplishments. For example, if you hold a Black Belt in karate, you can present this as an accomplishment and elaborate on the skills that you acquired or utilized over the years in meeting this goal (e.g., time management, instruction, working in a team environment, etc.). Q: A: How common is glaucoma? The latest studies show the global toll of glaucoma is set to reach 60 million by 2010, rising to almost 80 million by 2020. Women, who will make up almost 6 out of 10 cases and people living in Asia, Africa and India are expected to be the worst affected. It is estimated that the disease is most likely to increase most rapidly in India. Most people purchasing a home theatre face a common problem. How does this system work? The user interface/remote is the most commonly used item in an entertainment system, yet it is usually the least considered item in the system purchase. It is not uncommon to have a home with five or six remotes. This can be very confusing for many people, other than the technologically-savvy. This is where a home theatre remote control system comes into play. The best types of remotes integrate all of the remotes on one easy-to-use unit, but also automate the entire process. Simply pressing one button allows you to "Watch Satellite TV", "Watch DVD", "Listen to the Radio", "Play Your Ipod", or "Play CD." A unique feature to these remotes is that they do not need to be pointed at the equipment to work. The equipment can actually be hidden inside cabinetry or not visible and the remote system will operate the equipment. The ease of use is directly related to the skill of the programmer. At Canadian Sound, we have integrated 100's of successful systems with remote control system automation. Come by to see how we can make your home "electronics" lifestyle a lot more pleasurable.
