www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday January 13, 2007 - 27 Halton Green Party pick next federal candidate on Tuesday The Halton Federal Green Party Association will decide who its local candidate will be in the next federal election at a nomination contest Tuesday evening. The event, which will also include a screening of the movie `An Inconvenient Truth' by Al Gore, will be held at the Olde Dickens restaurant. Potential candidates for the nomination contest must be Green Party members in good standing as of January 2. All members will be eligible to vote, while nonmembers will be able to join the party. The movie will start at 7:30 p.m., followed by the contest at 9:15 p.m. The Olde Dickens is located at 189 Mill St. Mayor Burton on Round Table TVCogeco's current affairs program Round Table will feature Mayor Rob Burton on its live, call-in edition Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 7-8 p.m. The show is hosted by Oakville Councillor Ralph Robinson and Burlington politician Mark Carr. Round Table is a volunteerproduced, weekly current affairs program featuring discussions on topics ranging from healthcare and government policies to local charities. Viewers can call in to TVCogeco's viewer call-in line during the upcoming hourlong broadcast. The telephone number will be displayed on the screen during the broadcast. Burton, his wife, Wendy and their three children moved to Oakville in 1994. Burton has been involved with the Joshua Creek Residents' Association (JCRA), Oakville minor hockey and has served on the Oakville Library Board and Task Force on Intensification, Renewal and Redevelopment. After losing by a narrow margin to former mayor Ann Mulvale in 2003, he was elected in 2006. St. Mildred's hosts Mosaic Jan. 27 St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School is holding their second annual multicultural event entitled "Mosaic" on January 27 from 7-10 p.m. The event is a student-organized event to educate people about the different cultures around the world. Student will create booths in the school gymnasium that portray their cultures and traditions. Guest will be able to sample the exotic cuisine from around the world and will be entertained with a variety of cultural dances and songs. St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School is located at 1080 Linbrook Rd. Admission to enter "Mosaic" is $5 for adults and $3 for children with all the proceeds going to CSAW (Canadians Supporting Afghani Women) and COSTI ( Supporting New Immigrants).
