This year's run will be held on Jan. 28, three days after the Scottish baird's birthday. A tartan-clad piper will kick off the race and hot porridge will be ladled out following the race. The event, being held for the 28th year, begins the City of Burlington's Family Winter Carnival and benefits the Alzheimer Society. SILVER SMILES: The Oakville Vytis bantam girls' basketball team earned silver medals at the recent Hamilton Celtics tournament. Silver in Hamilton for Vytis bantams A dramatic come-from-behind victory in the semifinals enabled the Oakville Vytis bantam girls' basketball team to win silver at the recent Hamilton Celtics tournament. Oakville overcame a 12-point deficit to defeat Stoney Creek by two points in the semifinal. The Vytis also played games against Kingston, Dundas and Hamilton during the tournament. Members of the team are Beka McRae, Grace Kay, Brooke Rowland, Laura Whaley, Monika Slyka, Patricia Palcu, Natalie Hirano, Heather Bonnell, Tori Odetunde, Abby Norris, Jennifer Sutton, Kristen McGill and Jennifer Stinson. Jeff McRae and Randy Norris coach the squad, which is managed by Gord Hirano. Atom boys The Oakville Vytis atom boys' basketball REPBASKETBALL team went undefeated at last month's St. Catharines CYO tournament, claiming gold. Oakville clinched the championship with a 44-37 win over St. Catharines in the final, keyed by a 10-point effort by Kimbal Mackenzie -- earning him the most valuable player award. Perry Wyslobicky and Lance Bantoto added eight points each. Each member of the Vytis contributed both offensively and defensively during the tournament. Other members of the team are Jonathan Houston, Evan Thompson, David Dobson, Brock Giedraitis, Dominic Jelovac, Anthony Drouin, George Zorbas, Osmaan Yusuf and Stefan Duric.
