BEST IN BARRIE: The Oakville novice AA Rangers won the championship at the Glen Bellerby Memorial AA Hockey Tournament in Barrie earlier this month. Oakville defeated teams in the semifinal and final that had beaten the Rangers during the competition's elimination round. Essential RRSP checklist Continuing their strong tournament play this season, the Oakville novice AA Rangers won the championship at a competition in Barrie earlier this month. The Rangers had a tough start to the Glen Bellerby Memorial AA Hockey Tournament, going 1-2 in the elimination round and entering the semifinals as the fourth seed. However, Oakville managed to defeat top-seeded Flamborough 3-2 in the semifinal and then edged TNT 2-1 in the championship game. Johnny Mastromarco scored the game-winner in the Novice Rangers win tournament in Barrie gold-medal game, with Kevin Dobko also tallying. Both added assists, as did Matthew DiLella. In the semifinal, Jonathan Mills scored twice and DiLella netted a single. Sean Garvey, Michael Dobko and Kevin Dobko notched helpers. Kevin Dobko (two), Jaden Walcot, Joshua Rees, Mills and Mastromarco were the Oakville goal-scorers in elimination-round play. Goaltenders Alex Papineau and Jared Gould played well throughout the tournament and the Rangers forwards worked well with their defencemen to shut down their opponents' attacks.
