18 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday January 19, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Workshops offer training for the non-profit sector Glen Speakman has been involved with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Halton board of directors since 2003. "In 1998, I experienced an episode of major depression which lasted three years followed by a two year recovery period. I became aware how widespread mental illness is in our community, the stigma and discrimination faced by and the lack of resources to help the mentally ill," said Speakman. "I decided to help others while helping myself to recover. I chose the CMHA as the agency where I believed I could make a contribution." In the past year, CMHA Halton has experienced unprecedented growth and the agency is in transition from a small organization to a much larger one. The expansion has allowed for the development of several new programs and services for Halton residents. "With this change, CMHA Halton is restructuring the board from a hands-on approach to a policy governance board and is looking to renew its strategic plan," said Speakman . Seeking expert training and guidance, several members of the CMHA Halton board attended the Board Governance and Strategic Planning workshops offered through United Way of Oakville's Roadmap to Success Training and Consulting program. "The quality of the information at both workshops was excellent, practical and well organized," said Speakman. The Roadmap to Success Training and Consulting Program offers affordable training to staff and volunteers in the non-profit social services sector. Developed in partnership with Community Development Halton, the program is open to all non-profit agencies. Workshops cover topics such as Human Resources Development, Leadership Skills, Marketing and Media Relations. "At United Way, we are committed to building community capacity, both through funding local agencies and providing ongoing training to help agencies invest resources to their fullest potential," said Angele Wilson, Manager of Training and Consulting at United Way of Oakville. The next series of workshops will take place in the spring of 2007. Topics include: · Strategies and Skills for Managing Conflict Feb. 13 · Now what do I say? Media and Crisis Management March 22 · Attacking the Fundraising Challenge Lunch & Learn Series Feb. 14 - March 28 · Challenging your Concepts of Change Lunch & Learn Series Feb. 20 - March 20 Workshops range in price from $30 to $50 and take place at various locations across Oakville. No experience needed. N on-invasive cosmetic treatments, particularly injectable procedures such as BOTOX®, and RestylaneTM are on the rise. The public realizes these non-surgical treatments provide excellent results, and therefore demand has increased rapidly. In today's day and age of beauty, people are still relatively unwilling to undergo the inconvenience, risk and expense of conventional plastic surgery. This is why non-invasive cosmetic techniques are emerging with astonishing rapidity and delivering fantastic results. One of the most effective non-surgical techniques has been the use of injectable fillers to augment lost skin volume and provide sculpting and shape. Coupled with BOTOX® Cosmetic to relax underlying muscles and smooth out facial wrinkles. "Cosmetic patients have high expectations. They want outstanding results, delivered instantly with minimal risk, pain, swelling or bruising." Today's Dermal Fillers The most prominent of the new dermal fillers is the nonanimal-based RestylaneTM, which is comprised of cross-linked hyaluronic acid. As is the case with all cosmetic injections, Restylane's results are quite technique-sensitive, and a poor or inexperienced injector can mean many months of unhappiness for the patient. Pure Med Spa's leading team of expert nurse injectors, along with Dr. Mark Baily himself, are sought after by doctors nationwide to teach them the fine art of injecting BOTOX® and fillers (www.kappstraining.com).
