www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday January 24, 2007 - 9 Man charged in connection with two Kerr Street robberies Halton police have arrested a man in connection to two recent Kerr Street robberies. The first robbery occurred on Saturday, Jan. 20 around 4:40 p.m. when a man walked into the M & M Variety at 439 Kerr St. and demanded money from the employee. The suspect threatened the employee with a screwdriver. A struggle ensued which caused the suspect to flee the scene -- but he grabbed a carton of cigarettes from behind the counter before leaving. The store clerk at M & M Variety received minor injuries, but did not require medical attention. At 6:50 p.m. the same day, a man attempted a robbery at the Golden Leaf Restaurant at 357 Kerr St. and produced a knife. The man demanded money from the female employee working at the front counter and fled the store when the cash was handed over. The female clerk was not injured. On Sunday, Jan. 21, Constable Paul Craig was conducting an investigation and gathered evidence implicating a possible suspect for both robberies. Detectives from the Oakville Robbery Squad continued to investigate and apprehended a suspect in Mississauga without incident. Facing two counts of robbery is Carmelo Antonio Garcia-Barea, 40, of no fixed address. Garcia-Barea was held for a bail hearing.
