Using live models, students will learn to see through a series of drawing exercises, learn basic knowledge of anatomy and proportions, render the figure using lines, shapes and forms, experiment with contour and mass, and focus on accurately depicting the figure. An exhibiting artist based in Toronto, Sakhavarz has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Queen's University and a Bachelor of Education from York University. She has taught drawing, portraiture, painting, cartooning and life drawing to adults since 1995. A visual arts teacher with the Toronto Board of Education, her professional experience includes children's book illustrations, exhibiting and commissioned works, artist talks and workshops. St. Mildred's hosts Mosaic Thursday St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School is holding its second annual multicultural event entitled Mosaic on Thursday from 7-10 p.m. Students will create booths in the school gymnasium that portray their cultures and traditions. Guests can sample exotic cuisine from around the world and be entertained with a variety of cultural dances and songs. St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School is located at 1080 Linbrook Rd. Admission costs $5 for adults and $3 for children with all the proceeds going to CSAW (Canadians Supporting Afghani Women) and COSTI (Supporting New Immigrants). Writers' group offers eight-week course The West Side Writers' Coalition is putting on an eight-week writing course called Exploring Creative Writing. Add ginger and lightly sauté for a minute or two, making sure not to brown. Add stock and bring to boil. Add carrots and allow to boil until tender. Use an immersion blender to blend carrots until you have a smooth consistency. Continue simmering on low heat. Add salt and pepper to taste, along with the roughly chopped leaves of two springs of mint. Serve warm or chilled. Enjoy!
