Thurmeier has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Animated Short Film category. An animation supervisor for New Yorkbased Blue Sky Studios, Thurmeier earned the nod for his work in No Time for Nuts, a spinoff of the popular Ice Age movies, which were also created by Blue Sky Studios. Thurmeier, a native of Regina, Saskatchewan, graduated in 1997 from the Classical Animation program at Sheridan. There, he says, "I got an amazing education and exposure to the world of animation." After graduating, he was hired by Blue Sky Studios, where he has worked on films including Ice Age as a lead animator, and on both Robots and Ice Age: The Meltdown as supervising animator. Thurmeier is the sixth Sheridan grad to receive an Academy Award nomination, and the third to be nominated in the Best Animated Short Category. Jon Minnis won for Charade in 1983, and Eric Armstrong won for The ChubbChubbs in 2003. Sheridan's animation program was launched nearly 40 years ago, and has since earned the college international renown as one of the world's top animation schools. The former classical animation diploma program is now integrated into Sheridan's Bachelor of Applied Arts Animation, which combines traditional and contemporary approaches to the discipline. The first class in the BAA Animation program will graduate this spring.
