Sports Oakville Beaver The Oakville Aquatic Club (OAK) was hardly a hospitable host at its 20th annual invitational swim meet, held last weekend at the Iroquois Ridge Community Centre. OAK monopolized the podium at the AON Insurancesponsored event, winning a total of 180 medals -- more than a third of them going to the septet of Evan White, Mitchell Gour, Mika Spencer, Nick Majtenyi, Marni Oldershaw, Curtis Samuel and Jose Lozano. Each of those athletes won at least eight medals. White led the way with 11, seven of them gold, while Spencer won six races. Majtenyi, Oldershaw and Samuel each claimed five gold. Other multiple gold-medal winners included Jennifer Wilson, Katie Fox and Gour (four each), Erin Assman, Clara Armstrong and Lozano (three apiece), Tera Van Beilen and Mike Seifert (two each). New club individual records were set by Gour (10-andunder boys' 50-metre backstroke, 100m back and 200m back), Spencer (11-12 girls' 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m and 100m fly), Armstrong (11-12 girls' 50m and 100m breaststroke) and Oldershaw (11-12 girls' 200m back). Oldershaw and Spencer also teamed with Holly Olsen and Bridget Jordan to set a new club standard in the 11-12 girls' 4x50m freestyle relay. The meet attracted many of the province's top swimmers from as far away as Sudbury. Other top clubs participating included Toronto Swim Club, Hamilton Aquatic Club and Mississauga Aquatic Club. The competition featured the AON Dash-For-Cash 50m elimination races for each age class, with prize money put up by AON. Each 50m event began with eight swimmers who had advanced from the morning heats, with the top four swimmers advancing to the semifinal before the final two raced head-to-head for a gold medal and cash. Oakville Mayor Rob Burton opened the Sunday finals and started the first of the Dash-For-Cash races, matching the AON prize money in the first two events (the 15-and-older boys' and girls' 50m butterfly races). Samuel and Fox were the happy winners. Following is a recap of OAK medal-winners, by age division: 10-and-under girls: Meredith Johnson (silver in 50m fly), Perrie Armstrong (bronze in 50m breast, 200m breast and 50m fly), Meghan Clark (bronze in 100m breast). 11-12 girls: Mika Spencer (gold in 50m free, 100m free, 200m free, 800m free, 50m fly, 100m fly; silver in 50m back, 200m back, 200m individual medley, 400m free), Marni Oldershaw (gold in 50m back, 100m back, 200m back, 400m free, 400m individual medley; silver in 50m free, 100m free, 200m free, 100m breast), Clara Armstrong (gold in 50m breast, 100m breast, 200m breast; silver in 800m free; bronze in 100m fly), Emily Hunt (gold in 1,500m free), Bridget Jordan (silver in 100m back, 50m fly, 100m fly; bronze in 200m free, 50m back, 50m breast, 200m individual medley, 400m free), Holly Olsen (silver in 50m breast; bronze in 100m breast, 200m breast), Jessica Fraser (silver in 1,500m free), Annie Harrison (bronze in 200m back), Julia Sinkovits (bronze in 100m free), Kelsie McNeill (bronze in 800m free). 13-14 girls: Erin Assman (gold in 50m free, 100m fly, 200m individual medley; silver in 200m free, 200m fly; bronze in 50m breast), Tera Van Beilen (gold in 50m breast, 200m breast; bronze in 200m free), Veronica Davis-Freeman (gold in 100m freast; silver in 1,500m free, 200m breast), Sydney Clarke (gold in 400m individual medley), Alana Boffa (silver in 100m breast). 15-and-older girls: Jennifer Wilson (gold in 200m free, 800m free, 50m breast, 400m individual medley; silver in 200m fly, 200m individual medley), Katie Fox (gold in 100m free, 100m breast, 50m fly, 200m individual medley; silver in 50m breast; bronze in 100m fly), Megan McNevitts (gold in 1,500m free; silver in 200m back), Bridget Scott (gold in 400m free; bronze in 50m back, 200m back), Caroleene Maclennan (gold in 200m breast; bronze in 100m breast, 400m individual medley), Marina MacDougall (silver in 100m free; bronze in 50m back, 50m fly), Nicole Mackenzie (silver in 200m free; bronze in 800m free), Grace Johnson (bronze in 200m fly).
