(TCI) announced that it has set a new record for annual sales, for six straight years of sales growth as both the Toyota and Lexus divisions achieved best-ever sales results in 2006. Record December sales of 12,189 vehicles are up 2.8 per cent, boosting TCI to a record total of 195,780 units for the year, surpassing the 2005 record by 1.9 per cent. A new annual Toyota record of 183,779 units beat last yearís sales by an impressive 10.9 per cent, as December sales reached 11,131 vehicles, up by 1.9 per cent for the month. Toyota sold a record 134,798 cars in 2006, up 5.0 per cent over last yearís record, with December sales of 7,451 units down by 9.1 per cent. Toyota also set a new record for truck sales, with annual sales of 48,991 surpassing last year by a full 31.1 per cent, and December sales of 3,680 units up by 34.7 per cent. It was also the best year ever for Lexus ñ a total of 12,001 luxury cars and SUVs were sold in 2006, beating the previous year by 18.7 per cent. December Lexus sales of 1,058 were up by 13.4 per cent for the month. Lexus car sales reach a new yearly high, with 6,870 units growing by an impressive 52.3 per cent. December sales of 636 units increased 44.0 per cent. Lexus truck sales of 422 units are down 14.1 per cent for the month and total annual truck sales of 5,131 are down 8.3 per cent.
