www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday February 3, 2007 - 31 Summer hockey registration begins Summer may still be months away, but registration for the Oakville Summer Minor Hockey League and Halton Men's Summer Hockey League is already beginning. A registration session for the Oakville Summer Minor Hockey League will be held tomorrow (Sunday) from noon til 2 p.m. at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre, with another slated for next Sunday (Feb. 11) from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Oakville Arena. Games are played once a week in prime time on weekday evenings at the River Oaks Recreation Centre, with divisions available for boys and girls from tyke to midget. The Halton Men's Summer Hockey League is taking applications for its spring and summer league, which begins in mid-May. The league provides non-contact recreational hockey and is restricted to individual or small-group entries (no club teams are allowed). Anyone aged 30 or older is eligible to participate in the league, which features games once a week on weekday evenings. Three-legged race OHLers continue to shine Local OHL stars John Tavares, Sam Gagner and Tyler Donati each scored goals in the Ontario Hockey League allstar game Wednesday, won 13-9 by the Eastern Conference All-Stars in Saginaw, Michigan. Gagner added four assists in a losing cause for the West. Oakville resident Trevor Cann, a goaltender with the Peterborough Petes, stopped nine of 10 shots before leaving the game with an apparent knee injury. In recent regular-season action, Stefan Legein scored four times and added a helper in the Mississauga IceDogs' 10-2 rout of Kingston last weekend. Peewee AE Rangers Silver Stick finalists After winning their regional qualifying tournament in Chatham earlier this season, the Oakville peewee AE (additional entry) Rangers were finalists at the International Silver Stick tournament in Pelham. Oakville defeated teams from Chicago, North Carolina, Lindsay, Michigan and New York City to advance to the international championship game, where the Rangers dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to a squad from Tampa Bay. Members of the Rangers are Ryle Cameron, Nate Bolland, Chris Campanelli,, Ryan Stanton, Carson McBain, Jimmy Shea, Bobby O,Shaughnessy, Gavin McLaughlin, John Oldfield, Derek Sergas, Ryan Mullins, Scott Enman, Dale Stevens , Zack Shaban, Peter Smith, Adam Garrie and Kieran DeFilippis. Jeffery McBain and Frank DeFilippis coach the squad, which is managed by Lisa Garrie. Frank Shea is the Rangers' trainer. SILVER: The Oakville peewee AE Rangers were finalists at this year's International Silver Stick tournament.
