www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday February 16, 2007 - 23 Ian Burgham at Poetry Cafe Sunday The Oakville Arts Council's next Poetry Café is Sunday, Feb. 18 from 2 4 p.m. at the Moonshine Café, 137 Kerr St. The Feature Poet will be Ian Burgham, an associate of the League of Canadian Poets. A graduate of both Queen's University and the University of Edinburgh, his poems have been published in a number of anthologies, literary journals and magazines including Dandelion, Queen's Quarterly, Scottish Arts Journal, Harpweaver, Ascent Aspirations, The Salmon River Watershed and the Literary Review of Canada. Burgham's first collection of poetry, Confession of Birds, was published in the U.K. in 2004. In May, his next collection of poems, The Stone Skippers, will be published in Canada by Tightrope Books. It will also be published in Australia, New Zealand and the U.K. by different publishers. Burgham is currently working on a third collection. The guest poet for Sunday's Poetry Café is Joanna Gale. Each Poetry Café begins with readings by local poets, guest poets and feature poets and ends with an open mic. People are encouraged to bring their poems to share. Admission of $5 goes toward the cost of the feature poet and the chapbook made of the poems read that day. Everyone is welcome but a reservation to the Poetry Café ensures seating.
