26 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday February 16, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com How will I leave an imprint on the world? By Sarah Jansen Gr. 12 Holy Trinity "Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself." I have. As I stand on the threshold of a new beginning, I am left to contemplate how I will impact this world I am about to enter. How I will leave a lasting impression? The same hand that filled out university applications will leave an imprint. My imprint. And while it may not change the world, it will hold onto an opportunity to change myself. I have applied to various Communication programs at university. To many, this will seem ironic. But that is just it. Every school year, I have been encouraged by my teach- ers to speak up in class, to participate more. It is not that I haven't had any ideas to share. It is quite the opposite. I have been riddled by shyness and a fear of letting my opinions be heard. As my high school experience comes to a close, I will finally raise my hand and answer the question I ask myself; what will my imprint puremedspanews Finally a NON-SURGICAL solution to unwanted Fat & Cellulite Receive Mesotherapy Eliminates: Saddlebags Love-Handles Bulging Tummies Cellulite on Thighs before after be? I think it is hard to know for certain what we want out of life. Especially at this age, our futures are dependent upon an acceptance letter to be received in the mail. How can we determine what our imprint will be, when control of the world seems out of our hands? Communication Studies will give me the opportunity to present the person who has been evolving and growing. It will forever change the accepted persona of the "me" that the world has seen, allowing new dimensions of myself to be explored. The ideas and opinions that have been hiding, will find their way to paper. I wish I had a clear-cut plan. I wish I could sit here and write that in 10 years I hope to be a nurse or a lawyer. That isn't the case. There are so many forms of media, so many forms of writing. I want to acquaint myself with the world around me. If I can become more knowledgeable, I can present different issues and encourage people to mellow the prejudice and become more tolerant. If I can offer a different perspective, I can become a better citizen and a better person. I need to create a true representation of myself before I can create a lasting impression. Some might say that for a girl too shy to speak in class, it is strange that she would choose to share her ideas in written form for more than her classmates to see. However, I call this my imprint. My words, confident and in bold print are a reflection of my emerging self. 30% OFF Mesotherapy Big band fundraiser for trauma centre April 21 The Oakville Kiwanis and Knights of Columbus will host a Big Band Dance Saturday, April 21 to raise funds for the Halton Trauma Centre.
