www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday February 16, 2007 - 37 Lethal Venom OAK wins team title at Central Ontario With nearly half of its 45 competitors earning medals, the Oakville Aquatic Club (OAK) won the team championship at last weekend's Central Ontario Swim Championships in Etobicoke. The Central Ontario meet excluded swimmers who had previously qualified for the junior provincials in four or more events, meaning many of OAK's top high-performance swimmers did not compete. Still, 22 OAK athletes reached the podium and 13 more posted top-eight finishes in at least one event. Emily Hunt, Reid Scarrow and Annie Harrison each won three gold medals for OAK, with Mitchell Gour and Brody Dyson claiming two apiece. Also winning events were Evan White, Holly Olsen, Dylan Kent, Alexander Plotnikov, Veronica Davis-Freeman and Karina Sils. Other local swimmers to win individual medals were Clara Armstrong, Alana Boffa, Tristan Ruse and Graham Fink. Julia Sinkovits, Carly Ross, Avery Longmore, Mac Martyn, Greg MacLennan, Jarrod Baddeliyanage, Jack Cavanagh, Colin Searle all won medals as part of relay teams. OAK finished with 497 team points, 33 ahead of the second-place Toronto Swim Club. The Dolphins Swim Club, which took a small contingent of 19 swimmers, finished 12th with 190 points. The Dolphins combined to win seven gold, 15 silver and eight bronze medals at the meet, set 19 club records and earn three new provincial qualifying times. Michelle Gervais and Matt Clark were the local competitors to qualify for provincials, while Conor Russell, Olivia Sbaraglia and Sinead Russell were among the Dolphins swimmers setting club record. Bronwyn Evans added gold in the 400-metre individual medley.
