www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday February 23, 2007 - 37 Marsden has high rating in congregation Continued from page 30 Oakville. "At Knox we value our Presbyterian roots and rich traditions," said Marsden, noting the congregation also celebrates its strong heritage while embracing new, innovative and contemporary styles of worship. "Worship is all about an encounter with God, and with others. God is not limited to, or constrained by, one style of worship," said Marsden. Before arriving in Oakville in 2001, Marsden spent 23 years in service to God in the United Kingdom. In 1978, Marsden and his wife Yvonne committed their life to Christ while he was employed by a Christian mission for fishermen and their families. Since then, he has served as a Student Pastor and as a Minister. Marsden also served as the Training Development Officer for the United Free Church of Scotland. In that capacity, he was responsible for equipping ministers and congregations with the resources they needed for Mission and Evangelism work. Marsden graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Glasgow University in 1991. He and his wife have been married for almost 30 years. They have two children and four grandchildren living in the United Kingdom. The induction service for Marsden was held Sunday night and featured Rev. David Cartledge, a retired minister of the United Free Church of Scotland, as guest preacher at the Induction Service. A friend and mentor to Marsden, Cartledge has ministered as a youth worker with the Wesleyan Reform Union of Churches in Sheffield, as a minister of a circuit of six rural congregations in Leicestershire, as a minister of the Wesleyan Reform Church in Sheffield, and as a minister of the United Free Church of Scotland in Milngavie, Scotland. Cartledge is the Moderator Designate of the United Free Church of Scotland, and will be installed in that office in June 2007. Founded in 1833, Knox Presbyterian Church is located at the corner of Lakeshore Road and Dunn Street. Knox Presbyterian Church offers two Sunday services, at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Loving childcare for infants and preschoolers and stimulating programs for school age children are provided during both services.
