A 16-year-old male student of the school was taken to the Oakville police station and charged, yesterday, with uttering a death threat and mischief to property. Following a bail hearing in Milton yesterday, the student was released on bail with conditions. "There were a number of individuals who were interviewed. There was some evidence gathered and information received that led investigators to the identity of the individual," said Sgt. Peter Payne, Halton Police Public Affairs Officer. On Feb. 20 a message was found in a men's washroom at the school apparently threatening a mass shooting on Feb. 23. Upon learning of the message, staff at the school alerted authorities and a police presence was established at the school. The school informed students about the incident and sent letters to the parents of students letting them know what had happened and what the school and police were doing to respond. The day the individual threatened to do violence passed without incident although only a quarter of enrolled students actually attended classes. "The investigators concluded that criminal charges were warranted because of the seriousness of the threat, it being a threat of violence," said Payne. The Halton Regional Police are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information related to it is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 or 905-634-1831, ext. 2215 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-Tips (8477). A little extra driving may be required to gas up your car in the days to come as Oakville deals with a fuel shortage that has gripped Ontario. The reasons for the fuel pinch range from a fire at an Imperial Oil refinery to the CN rail strike to a diminished supply caused by demand for ethanol to all of the above. What is certain is the shortage has led to a very real impact in this community. Of 31 gas stations surveyed in the Oakville area yesterday, 10 reported they had no gas to sell. To make matters worse, other service stations say their supplies are dwindling with no relief in sight. "Probably by the end of the day we'll run out," said Nick Dicarlo, owner of Noco service station, at the corner of Mississaga Street and Lakeshore Road West. "We don't even know if it will be a week or 10 days before we get gas.
