Red Rockets, Navy Seals golden at Hornets tournament Two local teams won division titles and three other Oakville squads reached the final at last weekend's annual Oakville Hornets Girls Hockey Association House League Tournament. In tyke house league play, the Oakville Red Rockets downed the Oakville Black Cats 4-1 in the championship game, claiming top spot in the six-team division. The Red Rockets went 2-0 in round-robin play, then blanked the Oakville White Lightning in the semifinal. Madeline Clapham paced the Red Rockets with a pair of goals in the final, with Delany Pritchard and Rylee Davison netting singles. Other members of the Red Rockets are Rachel Allen, Leah Ashby, Abbey Fox, Jenna Harrison, Kyra Lynch, Gillian Miller, Terra Rae, Alexandra Robertson, Nicole Robertson and Emma Thompson. Countering for the Black Cats in the final was Megan Foster. Tara Emo, Sarah Matheson, Tara McInnis, Jennifer Schwichtenberg, Mattie Base, Isabelle Hardy, Elizabeth Buck, Brittany Skura, Logan Hackett, Julia McDonnell, Natalie Appleton and Kaitlyn Booth round out the tyke finalists' roster. The Oakville Navy Seals were the other local club to win its division, earning gold in the 11-team bantam association competition. Krysten Wood scored the decisive goal in the Navy Seals' 1-0 win over the Waterloo Ravens in the final, with Samantha Coley recording the shutout. Shaina Copperthwaite, Victoria Duggan, Claire Droniuk, Katie Jagodkin, Eden Lewis, Jamie McDonald, Emma Monk, Erin Scott, Candice Sparks, Katie Taft, Meghan Urquhart, Carly Watt and Alexandra Lincz also contributed to the goldmedal win. The Navy Seals were 1-0-2 in round-robin play and downed the Oakville Teal Tigers 3-1 in the semifinal. The Oakville Teal Attack reached the final of the 12-squad novice house league division, defeating the Oakville Blue Sharks in the elimination round, before falling 1-0 to the Burlington Krazy K9's. Lauren Waldbillig, Stephanie Kozdras, Madison Bryer, Nicole Mastantuono, Emma Coulter, Megan Lesiuta, Isabelle Mastantuono, Kaelan Peterson, Dominique Daniels, Caragh O'Mahoney, Sophie Nasato, Susannah Dunn, Meghan Gilhooly, Samantha Watkins, Fiona Venneri and Jenna Culumovic are part of the silver-winning Teal Attack. The other Oakville team to reach a final was the midget house league Gang Green, which lost its championship game 2-0 to the Sudbury Gruv Tech Tigers. Gang Green defeated the Oakville Silver Mustangs 4-0 in the semifinal, while Sudbury blanked Oakville The Navy 2-0 in the other semi of the 20-team division. Earning silver were Gillian Arfin, Danielle Dmytraszko, Lauren Stanley, Jennifer Reynolds, Shannon Stack, Dana Dragone, Kirsten Walker, Kristin MacDonald, Janina Kotowski, Kim Koumbiadis, Valerie Robinson, Laura Duckers, Laura Peters, Alexandra Williams and Stephanie Maganja. The Mississauga Purple Panthers were the champions in the 24-team atom house league division, downing the Burlington Blue Lightning 1-0 in the final after knocking out the Oakville Teal Tigers 1-0 in the semi. The Brampton Canadettes won the peewee house league title with a 3-2 overtime win over the Burlington Tigers. Both the Oakville Teal Tigers and the Oakville Tigers were semifinalists. In peewee association play, the Port Huron B/W Speed Demons defeated the Durham West Lightning 3-1 in the title game, while the Oshawa Lady Generals edged the Guelph True Local Yokels 3-2 in the bantam house league final. The Sudbury Raymond Assurance won the other division, intermediate house league, with a 2-0 victory over the Sault Ste. Marie McDougall Fuels in the final.
