The top three Relay For Life fundraising teams as of Wednesday, May 23, will have the chance to "chill" at Relay For Life. Wave 94.7 FM will invite teams to join them at Relay For Life on the `Late Night Chillin' With the Wave' Patio for some gourmet treats and live jazz. The top three fundraising teams will be determined on May 23 and announced at a Team Captains' meeting May 24. Then there will be the Colour Your World: Luminary Gallery. At the Relay participants will be able to buy a colourful luminary bag and personalize it with decorations. There will also be a Relay Marketplace. Relay For Life participants will have the chance to sell their wares and raise money for their team at the Relay Marketplace by selling candy kabobs, baked goods, homemade jewlery, knit goods and more. Call the Oakville Unit at 905845-5231 to book a vendor space. Team Captains will have a Meeting and Banking Night on May 24, at 7 p.m. at Willis Hall, Appleby College. That's where they will receive all the final details and instructions for Relay For Life -- early drop off and tent-site set up times; parking- off site parking locations and shuttles; registration; luminaries; survivors'- reception and Victory Lap details; entertainment and activities; T-shirts; and People's Choice Awards -- best tent site, best costume. Each team member is required to pay a $10 registration fee. Both large teams -- 12 or more -- or small teams of five people or fewer can be accommodated. Youth teams, aged 18 years and under will be required to have an adult chaperone (a parent or teacher) that commits in writing to be present for the entire event and responsible for the team's conduct. Youth teams must register by Friday, May 18 at 5 p.m. (all members registered, registration fees paid and chaperone waiver signed). At the heart of the Relay is the Survivors' Victory Lap and all cancer survivors are invited to join. Survivors can register prior to the event online at www.cancer.ca/relay or by submitting a survivor form to the Oakville Unit. All survivors will be called to the Relay For Life start line at 7 p.m. to officially open Relay with the Victory Lap. Each survivor will be identified with a special t-shirt and ribbon. Survivors are invited to a special reception at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served and if a survivor needs assistance to complete the lap, golf carts will be available. All luminary forms must be handed in by Thursday, May 24. Each registered team member and survivor will be provided with dinner coupons courtesy of Longo's.
