www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday March 9, 2007 - 31 Singer/Songwriter Series sheds spotlight on local talent Series starts Sunday at CJ's Cafe CJ's Café kicks off its new Sunday Singer/Songwriter Series this coming Sunday. It's designed to bring out local musical talents for Oakville audiences, with performances taking place every Sunday afternoon from 12 2 p.m. Café owner CJ Martin has made it a priority to showcase the talents of local artists, and wanted to add a series to give musicians a chance to showcase their talents as well. The series has five musicians booked so far, for six Sundays in March and May. Since April is national Poetry Month, the Sunday Singer/Songwriter Series will take a break in April to let poets take the stage. Jenn Ryan will kick off the Singer/Songwriter series on March 10, a folk artist preparing to release her debut EP, Out in the Open, in May. Heidi Crocini, an acoustic musician, is on tap for March 18, with classical guitarist Trevor Burt following her for the Sunday March 25 performance. Other scheduled artists include Rob Birmingham and 16-year-old Maggie Szabo. Martin made connections to the music community with the help of John Marlatt, who owns the Moonshine Café on Kerr St., which also showcases local talent. "We are very supportive and cooperative with each other," says Martin. "It's not like we're competition. People who want to go out at night and enjoy a few drinks while watching music can go to the Moonshine. People who want to go out on a weekend afternoon and enjoy some lunch or a coffee while watching music can come to CJ's. We both have a commitment to making Oakville more creative and culturally vibrant, and we're both members of the Oakville Arts Council, and it's great to work together." Those interested in performing at CJ's Café, 2416 Lakeshore Rd. W., should email Martin at cjmartin_artist@yahoo.ca. Those with a myspace.com link should include it in the email. www.oakvillebeaver.com Reading | Writing | Math | Spelling | Grammar | French | Study Skills LITTLE READER INSIDE EVERY CHILD IS A SUCCESSFUL STUDENT.
