24 - The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday March 10, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Brantwood student skating at provincials The early-morning practices have paid off for nine-yearold Sophie MacLellan, who is competing in the 2007 Skate Ontario Trillium Starskate Challenge this weekend in Kitchener. A Grade 4 student at Brantwood Public School, MacLellan has prepared for the competition by skating five days a week, often practicing before school begins. She had a personal-best, clean-skate performance, including two axels, to place second out of 60 skaters in her division at the Boston Pizza Western Ontario Starskate Championships. The top three moved on to provincials, which take place today. The provincials appearance concludes a successful season for MacLellan, who has reached the podium in all six previous Starskate events she has competed in this year. MacLellan trains out of the Burlington Skating Centre and is coached by Mike and Arlene Richards.
