The 2007 walk will take place in Oakville April 15 and more than 900 participants are expected to take part in the walk to raise $180,000 for multiple sclerosis (MS) research and services. It will be the second time the Super Cities Walk for MS has been held in Oakville. Previously, those interested in participating had to go outside the community to neighbouring cities like Burlington and Mississauga. That all changed last year under the stewardship of the 2006 honourary chair Bob Decker of Oakville who was a top fundraiser for a number of years, raising between $30,000 and $50,000 annually through corporate donations. In 2006, Decker was again at the top of the outstanding fundraisers raising a whopping $49,855. Decker participates annually with his family and was taking part in Burlington until the walk was established in Oakville last year. The Oakville team that went by the moniker Chicken Little and led by Barbara Sheehan was among the top 25 fundraising teams contributing $2,079 in 2006. MS is the most common disease On Wednesday, top fundraisers, team captains, sponsors, and volunteers from the 2006 Oakville Super Cities WALK for MS gathered to mix and mingle and plan for the 2007 walk. The 2007 MS Society honorary chair Harold Lenfesty, local residents and businesses that support the MS Society of Canada and Super Cities WALK for MS were on hand, along with local residents with MS. Last year, history was made on April 16 at 9 a.m. when the first Oakville Oakville Super Cities Walk got underway with 5K and 10K routes and more than 260 participants signed up. Both routes were wheelchair accessible. The shorter route wound through historic downtown and the longer route took in the scenic lakeshore. This year the Oakville walk will be held Sunday, April 15. Check in on walk day will be at 8:30 a.m. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Oaklands Regional Centre on Bond Street. There will be 5km and 10km routes.
