24 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday March 16, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Michael Enright speaks at Sheridan Michael Enright, the renowned journalist and host of CBC Radio's The Sunday Edition, will share his perspective on later life learning at Sheridan's Oakville campus on Thursday, March 22 from 7 ­ 8:30 p.m. Entitled `Skating to Learn...Reflections on Later Life Learning', Enright's public lecture is presented by the Sheridan Elder Research Centre (SERC) in celebration of lifelong learning. Enright's innovative approach to the coverage of world events has made him an icon of Canadian journalism. He has been the host of CBC Radio One's The Sunday Edition since 2000. Prior to joining The Sunday Edition, Enright hosted This Morning for three years, and he spent 10 years hosting CBC Radio's As It Happens. "As a researcher and an educator, I am absolutely committed to the importance of lifelong and, in particular, later life learning," said SERC Director Pat Spadafora. "Michael has an impressive track record of listening to the voices of older persons and we are very fortunate that he is able to share his experiences at this community lecture." Enright established As It Happens as a program that breaks through the boundaries of standard news broadcasting. He joined the show after twoand-a-half years as managing editor of CBC Radio News. Prior to that, Enright held a number of important editorial positions with leading Canadian magazines and newspapers. There is no fee for this community event, which will be held in the Sheridan Centre for Animation and Emerging Technologies (SCAET) auditorium, Room S235, located off Ceremonial Road at the Trafalgar Road campus of the Sheridan College Institute. Garvey's hosts Trade and Save Event Oakville's Garvey's Fine Men's Wear is hosting a `Trade and Save Event.' Between March 19 and 31, customers who bring in gently used suits, sportcoats and shoes will receive 10 per cent off the purchase of a brand new suit, sportcoat or pair of shoes. Garvey's owner and operator Harold Lenfesty proposed this incentive when he saw an opportunity to partner with Oakville's Safetynet, a local family and children's charity. All donated gently used merchandise will be contributed to Oakville's Safetynet Family and Children's Charities, which help support Halton families. The charity offers tutoring and community outreach support, including free tutoring to youths experiencing difficulty, food bank services and clothing bank services.
