12 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday March 21, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Do you know a deserving environmentalist? Conservation Halton wants to know about any good deeds or actions that have enhanced the natural environment during 2006. Since 1982, Conservation Halton has been recognizing people and organizations who have made significant contributions to conservation in the Halton watershed Nominees have included such groups as teacher associations and federations, scout and guide groups, naturalist clubs, corporations, government agencies and private landowners. There are six categories in the program: citizen, community, education, stewardship, corporate and the conservation honour roll award for long time dedication to environmental protection. The winners' names are placed on a plaque, displayed in the lobby of Conservation Halton's office and individual plaques are presented to the recipients. Last year more than 30 people and groups were recognized from all areas of the watershed including Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Halton Hills, Flamborough, Mississauga, Dundas and Puslinch. Conservation actions have included activities such as tree planting, stream rehabilitation and clean-up, school yard naturalization projects, environmental education activities, wildlife improvement projects, and fundraising for conservation. Nominations for the conservation awards can be submitted up to March 31. The awards ceremony is on May 23, at Conservation Halton's Administration Centre in north Burlington. For more information about the categories, the criteria and how to apply, call Conservation Halton at 905-336-1158 or visit our web site at www.conservationhalton.on.ca.
