Community Living Oakville is hosting its first annual Chair Affair on Friday, May 4. The event features dinner, music provided by local jazz singer Marieve Herington and her Jazz Quartet, a silent auction and the highlight of the night a live auction featuring Muskoka chairs painted by local artists. A chair signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs has also been added to the live auction. There will be 10 painted Muskoka chairs for the live auction, and 10 for the silent auction. Four of the chairs were painted for kids, including one with the popular Sponge Bob Square Pants. Other silent auction items include jewelry, a Jubilee Fruit Market basket, gift certificates from Seasons Restaurant and La Dolce Vita, a ski package for five including rental at Mansfield Ski Club, a teeth whitening appointment with Dr. Elliot Ber, a golf travel bag from Assante Capital, a salon spa package at Atelier Hair Salon, a shirt and tie from Garvey's, a chocolate basket from Trebor/Cadbury, a family package of tickets to the Royal Ontario Museum, $200 gift certificates to Tocca Finita and more. All proceeds will support Community Living Oakville. For 50 years, it has provided high quality services and support for hundreds of individuals with intellectual disabilities in need of accessible and meaningful ways to live in the community. Though much of the funding comes from the Ministry of Community and Social Services, many crucial programs Community Living Oakville provides don't have adequate funding. Funds raised from the Chair Affair will help to ensure that Community Living Oakville can continue to offer its current level of services to support people at the different stages of their lives. The fundraising goal for the event is $50,000. Tickets cost $100 each or $800 for a table. Community Living Oakville is looking for sponsors for Chair Affair. Those interested should contact fundraising coordinator Tina Christie at 905-8440146, ext. 239.
