Cash closes campaign A $195,000 grant from Ontario's Ministry of Children and Youth Services Thursday has closed the $400,000 renovation and relocation campaign for the Oakville Parent-Child Centre (OPCC). "This is a very proud moment in the 25-year history of the centre," said its executive director Jill Snidal Thursday. The grant was made by the ministry, which is already a major partner of the OPCC, providing the funds to make the centre Oakville's Ontario Early Years Centre. It was made under the ministry's Partner Facility Renewal Program, which helps organizations to invest in the repair and maintenance of a site to enhance it for client requirements. "The campaign created a new main site for OPCC, replacing the location on Kerr Street, which we occupied for 19 years, but outgrew. Our nursery school and program rooms are now accessible and at ground level. Additional space has increased our capacity to respond to long wait lists, introduce new programs, and upgrade existing services. With a truly remarkable physical environment one that is welcoming, nurturing, and conducive to discovery and learning, we are better able to meet the needs of the hundreds of parents and children who rely on us each day," said Snidal. The centre is now located at 461 North Service Rd. W., Unit 17 though it also manages satellite operations on Sixth Line, Abbeywood Drive and Kingsway Drive. "I'm very pleased that the Province could contribute to the Oakville's ParentChild Centre campaign and ensure this vital organization has the best possible facilities to meet our community's childcare needs," said Flynn. "This is money well spent and provides another terrific example of our government's commitment to invest in our community, our children, and our local infrastructure needs," said Flynn. The ministry had already made a previous $28,500 commitment to the campaign along with gifts from more than 500 individuals, parent users of the centre, corporations and foundations, various government agencies, its board and staff. The OPCC is the leading provider of parent-child programs in Oakville. It offers information, support, referrals, education and resources. Last year, it served 1,949 families and experienced 16,000 parent and 19,500 children visits, in over 40 programs. It is an Ontario Early Years Centre. advertisement DIRECTORY 2007 ¢entsible Bookkeeping Services Personal Tax Returns Drop off or Free Pick-up E-File registered.
