STORMWATER MANAGEMENT Stormwater management ponds (SWMPs) are designed to collect runoff from the local storm sewer system, provide treatment to remove the pollutants, and then slowly release treated water back to our natural waterways. SWMPs are not intended or maintained for recreational use, and for the health and safety of our residents and visitors, all recreational activities are prohibited on SWMPs. These activities include, but are not limited to, skating, swimming, wading, boating, and fishing. Should you visit our ponds with younger family members or friends, please take a moment to review the warning signs with children and visitors. Pond Maintenance The Town carries out routine maintenance on SWMPs once they have been assumed through the development process. Private maintenance activities are prohibited. Grass and weed cutting is not recommended around the perimeter of these ponds, as this vegetation provides a natural buffer to the pond and assists in the treatment of stormwater runoff. Drainage of a SWMP and a dredging operation are required approximately once every five to ten years to remove accumulated sediment. Fences installed by developers which separate residential lots from open space areas are located on Town property. The installation of gates is prohibited. Protection of Natural Areas Natural creek channels provide habitat for fish, wildlife and vegetation. For the protection of our natural areas, do not dump debris or yard waste such as grass clippings, soil and brush into the creek or adjacent valley. If you need to dispose of such material, please visit our local landfill or waste transfer stations. Do not drain pool water or roof leader drainage directly into adjacent streams or ravine areas.
