Central OMHA crown for novice A Rangers A 7-1 loss in their first exhibition game was not an omen of things to come this season for the Oakville novice A Rangers. The Rangers concluded a storybook year, the first at the rep level for many of their players, Saturday in Orillia with a 3-2 victory over the Terriers, capturing the Ontario Minor Hockey Association Central championship. Oakville, which won the final first-to-six-points series 6-2, finished the year with a league-play record of 38-4-3 (including playoffs). The Rangers were 25-0-3 in regular-season play. "After an undefeated season, the team did lose four games in the playoffs, which helped the players understand what it takes to win," said Oakville head coach Rob Stanbury. "(It took) lots of hard work, the ability to be coached and learn, and now they are champions." Jake Tomkowiak netted the gamewinner in Saturday's contest, breaking a 2-2 deadlock with four minutes remaining in regulation time. Bryant McKeon and Graydon James had the Rangers' other markers. Oakville had an opportunity to sweep the series and clinch the OMHA crown on home ice Friday at Maplegrove Arena, but the Terriers scored five consecutive goals to build a 5-1 lead and held on for a 6-4 win. Stanbury was quick to credit the Terriers for being able to extend their series despite playing in front of a large pro-Oakville crowd in Game 3. "Full credit to our team, though, for rebounding and winning the championship in four games and on their home ice," he said. Oakville's other victories in the series came by 2-1 scores, March 17 in Oakville and March 18 in Orillia. Other members of the team are Braden Leedham, Lucas VasilarosWilson, Liam Coderre, Christopher Howarth, Jayden Wiggins, Kyle Harvey, Jason Stanbury, Benjamin Hamburg, Joseph Serrao, Alex Montague, Ben Prentice, Jacob Patriquin, Jacob Zedor and Kyle Bernat-Riddle. Bill McKeon and Jonathon Hamburg are the team's assistant coaches, Brian Prentice is the trainer and Renee Serrao serves as manager. -- Jon Kuiperij · · · · · · · OAKVILLE SUMMER MINOR HOCKEY LEAGUE May - August Schedule Non-Contact 12-game schedule No summer weekends or Fridays Prime time evening games Games at River Oaks Arena Balancing of teams Divisions for boys & girls ages 5-15 · Trophies & awards · Certified officials · Coaching & sponsorship positions available · No fundraising · "Vacation week" to assist with holiday planning Join !
