24 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday March 28, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com SILVER MEDALISTS: The Oakville minor peewee AAA Rangers (right) and midget AAA Rangers both earned silver at last weekend's Ontario Minor Hockey Association championship tournaments. Minor peewees, midgets claim OMHA silver medals Both the Oakville minor peewee AAA and midget AAA Rangers earned silver at their respective Ontario Minor Hockey Association championship tournaments, held last weekend. The minor peewees went 2-1-1 during round-robin play at their tournament in Aurora, Oakville's only loss coming to the defending OMHA champion York-Simcoe Express. The Rangers met York-Simcoe once again in the championship game and dropped a 3-2 decision, the deciding goal coming on an Express powerplay with four minutes to go in regulation. "We played them in two tournaments this season and beat them twice, but we just came up a little short on the weekend (against the Express)," said Oakville minor peewee AAA coach John Guzzo. "Our kids were probably disappointed but we tried to keep things in perspective. With how many teams compete throughout the province, to get to the gold-medal game... a lot of teams would change places with us quite quickly." Kristyn Capizzano and Kevin Guzzo scored for the Rangers in the championship game. Earlier in the tournament, Oakville downed the Quinte Red Devils 3-1, tied the Halton Hurricanes 2-2, fell 2-5 to the Express and doubled the Barrie Colts 4-2. Ryan Burns led Oakville in scoring at the competition, tallying six times and adding an assist. Austin Kosack recorded five assists and Tyler Burns, Ryan's twin brother, had two goals and two helpers. Brandon Clark chipped in with a pair of markers. Other members of the team are Brayden Banitsiotis, Jackson Hulbert, Greg Campbell, Sean Perichak, Kamil Tkaczuk, Danny Beaver, Scott Goodman, Daniel Nicolucci, Justin Martin, Cole Morrison and Jake Smith. Elio Capizzano and Mark Gowan are assistant coaches, while Rob Campbell serves as manager and trainer. The midget AAA Rangers, meanwhile, went undefeated during roundrobin action in Markham before being edged 3-2 in the final by the Richmond Hill Stars. Josh Ruys and Michael Ide scored for Oakville in the championship game. The Rangers had defeated Richmond Hill during round-robin play, 2-1. Oakville also defeated Burlington 5-2 and Ajax-Pickering 3-2, then tied Markham 0-0. Peter Ranieri, Connor McMonagle, Jonathan Brand, Tyler Stothers, Michael Macdonald and Brett Chandler were Oakville's other goal-scorers in the tournament. Kristopher McCoubrey, Derek Osborne, Michael Baird, Sam Old, Scott Benzoni, Patrick Chiasson, Matthew Bertrand, Tyson Theaker, Patrick Marsh, Grant Kozlik and David Clement round out the roster. Bryan Jackson coaches the team, assisted by Kyle Jackson and Erik Nabeta. Geoff Browne is the Rangers' manager and Jennifer Biezel serves as trainer.
