www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday April 6, 2007 - 13 People on the go can download library books T he Oakville Public Library now offers free downloadable audio books though "Libraries ON the Go", a new web site for busy booklovers to enjoy anytime, anywhere. It's a great alternative to finding time in your busy day to sit down and read. You aren't limited to downloading the audio books to just your computer; you'll be able to transfer segments of the file, or the entire file, to a supported mobile device, such as a PDA, MP3 player, or Microsoft Smartphones. You also have the option of burning the file to a CD. If an audio book you're interested is currently on loan, a request for the title can be made and an e-mail will be sent to you indicating when it's ready for you to borrow. What exactly is available on the Libraries' ON the Go site? Popular new titles such as: Hannibal Rising by Thomas Harris, separate segments as required. You may borrow up to three items at a time. At the end of the lending period there's no need to 'return' the borrowed item - the file automatically expires and can no longer be opened on your computer or as a portable file. Those wanting to borrow free audio books should visit www.LibrariesONtheGo.library.on.c a and click on the Oakville Public Library link. If you have any questions about this new service, please contact Oakville Public Library Online Resources Librarian novels by James Patterson, The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, Girls in Pants; the Third Summer of the Sisterhood by Ann Brashares, job hunting books, Dr. Seuss favourites, learning new languages such as German, French, Spanish and Italian, and many more. Getting started is easy; your library card is the first step to enjoying the wide range of audio books available on the web site. Each audio book has a set loan period, however because the file size for each book can be large, customers will have access to a checked-out book for the full lending period and can return to download Andra Steele at 905-815-2042, ext. 5905, or asteele@oakville.ca. Libraries ON the Go is a joint partnership of the Oakville, Milton, Barrie, Innisfill and Middlesex Public Libraries, all of which have joined to establish a shared virtual collection of digital audio books for their communities.
