www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday April 13, 2007 - 17 Plenty of locations to celebrate Oakville's 150th anniversary T he Town of Oakville is celebrating its 150th anniversary throughout 2007. A Citizen Task Force - headed by Chair Francine Landry and ViceChair Jane Hawkrigg - has been working in conjunction with the Town to coordinate three community-wide events to enable citizens to come together and celebrate Oakville's past, present and future. Mark your calendars: · Neighbourhood Birthday Parties May 27 · Waterfront Festival June 22-24 · Heritage Hustle October 14. The Town's official birthday is May 27 and on that day there will be neighbourhood parties taking place in each ward. The birthday parties will provide an opportunity to join your friends, neighbours and Ward Councillors and celebrate the beauty and uniqueness that is Oakville. Each Ward will feature a variety of events. Details will be published at a later date. Birthday party locations: · Ward 1 Heritage Park · Ward 2 Trafalgar Park · Ward 3 Lakeside Park · Ward 4 Glen Abbey Recreation Centre · Ward 5 River Oaks Community Centre · Ward 6 Iroquois Ridge Community Centre. The Oakville Waterfront Festival celebrates the sesquicentennial with a Celebrate Oakville Homecoming Weekend. Guests can expect to enjoy a walk down memory lane, live performances, special guest appearances, town crier competition, plus a bigger than ever Sunveil Sunwear fireworks show in honour of the Town's 150th Anniversary. Plenty of hands-on activities and displays to commemorate the Town's history and culture will be featured, all in Coronation Park, throughout Festival weekend June 22-24. Plan to join us down at the waterfront. The Heritage Hustle is a 5k Run/Power Walk and 1.5k Family Fun Walk. Proceeds from the event will support the Oakville 150th REACH Legacy Fund. The REACH fund represents the best of what we have to give as a caring community: Raising resilient youth, Earth, Arts, Caring for our needy and vulnerable and last, but certainly not least, Heritage. We have much to be grateful for in our Town and this is an ideal opportunity to show the world what we are made of. Ralph Waldo Emerson said it succinctly: "To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a gar- den patch or a redeemed social condition, to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. That is to have succeeded." This event is open to everyone from runners to recreational walkers and families. Complete details on this event, including how to register, will be available in the near future. If you and/or your organization want to celebrate the 150th in your own way, share it with us and include your planned event on the Town's Calendar of Events. Simply log onto www.oakville.ca click on the 150th logo and fill out the event form. We look forward to an exciting year-long party celebrating the wonderful place we call home. -- Submitted by the Town of Oakville WAL-MART CORRECTION NOTICE The release date for the Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl Nintendo D.S. video games (#560330/6) advertised in our current flyer (expiring April 20th) has been delayed.
