www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday April 14, 2007 - 21 McTAVISH TRAVEL RECOMMENDS "NEXUS" The NEXUS program allows pre-screened, low risk travellers to be processed with little or no delay by United States and Canadian officials at NEXUS kiosks. NEXUS is currently available at Toronto Pearson International Airport, Vancouver International Airport and will be available soon at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport, Edmonton International Airport, Calgary International Airport, Winnipeg International Airport and Halifax International Airport. NEXUS members can go directly to the NEXUS self-serve kiosks and do not need to go through primary inspection lines. NEXUS air mode uses non-invasive iris recognition technology to identify the traveller and verify his or her membership in the program. In addition to airports, NEXUS is also available at designated highway lanes at high volume border crossing locations and at certain marine reporting locations in the Great Lakes and Seattle, Washington regions. NEXUS is a bi-national program so individuals approved to participate in NEXUS receive one identification card that allows them to use NEXUS when they cross the border with a minimum of customs and immigration questioning. Because NEXUS is a harmonized program, applicants only need to complete a single application and pay one fee. All applications are sent to a Canadian Customs Processing Centre (CPC) and payment must be made at the time of application. The processing fee for a 5-year membership is $80.00 CAD. This form can be mailed or faxed. Qualified applicants are required to come to a NEXUS Enrollment Centre only once, for an interview and issuance of a photo-identification card. Application forms and a listing of regional CPCs are available on the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) website www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca. For NEXUS toll-free information call 1-866-639-8726. NEXUS allows United States and Canadian border agencies to concentrate their efforts on potentially higher-risk travellers and goods, which helps ensure the security and integrity of our borders.
