The new guide, the first in 15 years, reflects the changing diets of Canadians and takes into account food choices that are a part of Canada's evolving cultural mosaic. The Food Guide categorizes the food we eat into 4 groups: · Vegetables and Fruit · Grain Products · Milk and Alternatives · Meat and Alternatives Each category gives a recommended serving size based on age and gender. For example, a 35-year old woman should consume: · 7-8 servings of vegetables and fruit · 6-7 servings of grain products · 2 servings of milk and alternatives · 2 servings of meat and alternatives · 30 to 45 mL (2 to 3 tbsp) of unsaturated oils and fats Within each category, the Guide outlines food choices and offers up tips for healthy eating. For example, in the Meat and Alternatives section, where protein is the most important nutrient, the Guide offers the following advice: It only takes 75 g (2 1/2 oz.) or 125 mL (1/2 cup) of meat, fish or poultry, 175 mL (3/4 cup) cooked beans, 2 eggs, or 30 mL (2 tbsp) peanut butter to make up one Food Guide Serving. You can choose half servings and enjoy a small amount of meat and alternatives at each meal or snack. In addition, Canada's Food Guide suggests topping a salad with, among other things, a hard-cooked egg to increase your servings in this category. There are many benefits to following these recommendations. Healthy habits may help reduce your risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, certain types of cancer and osteoporosis. At the same time, they provide benefits such as: · Better overall health · A healthy body weight · Feeling and looking better · More energy · Stronger muscles and bones - News Canada EST. 2006 Completely New Menu MONDAY - FRIDAY - 2 for 1 Lunch Special with this ad APRIL 23 - APRIL 27 and APRIL 30 - MAY 4 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Pick up your Lunch Cards MONDAY - Wing Night and BUD & BUD LIGHT TALL CANS Y at a featured price.
