The special gala event will feature guest speaker Kim Mason, the Regional Vice President of the RBC's Financial Group in Halton, and special guest Satish Mehta, the Consul-General of India in Toronto. It also features a little bit of Bollywood, with live music by Bollywood Connection, which will be followed by a dance performance by the internationally acclaimed performer and choreographer Iman Grewal of Kama Entertainment. Dhol master Tej will play alongside. "Toronto was home to the first Bollywood movie premiere outside of India last year, and the success of that opening highlighted the strength and enjoyment to be found within diversity," said Trivi Mehendale, President of Halton Multicultural Council. "With the current shortage of doctors and skilled laborers, and a decreasing birth rate, newcomers are the key to Canada's future success. Organizations like Halton Multicultural Council help these newcomers establish themselves, learn English, and ultimately contribute towards a richer and more substantial Canadian society." The gala will be held at Le Dome, 1173 North Service Rd. E. It starts at 6 p.m. with cocktails. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Halton Multicultural Council is a non-profit agency dedicated to serving immigrants, refugees and other newcomers. HMC provides settlement services, English classes, job search workshops, transitional housing, youth programs, HOST program, translation/interpretation, and training on multiculturalism for the public and private sector.
