Learn how to get a good night sleep with these helpful tips from Better Sleep Council Canada May is Better is Sleep Month in Canada; it's the perfect time for all Canadians to evaluate their sleep habits and mattresses and learn how to get a better night's sleep every night. Healthy sleep has been proven to be the single most important determinant in predicting how long we live; it's more influential than diet, exercise or heredity! And robbing your body of the sleep it needs can result in itching or burning eyes, craving unhealthy high-fat and highcarb foods, mood changes, reduced thinking abilities and mental efficiency and poor memory processing. This May, the Better Sleep Council Canada reminds Canadians of the four R's to a restful night's sleep: 1. Regularize: regularize your sleep patterns. Find the perfect amount of sleep time for you and stick to it. Go to sleep and get up at the same time daily, even on weekends. 2. Ritualize: ritualize cues for good sleep. Keep your sleep environment quiet, cool and dark, and maintain your bedroom for sleep and sex. Go to bed only when you're tired. 3. Relax: find ways to reduce stress and tension, and wind down before bed like reading or taking a warm bath. 4. Resist: resist behaviours that interfere with good sleep; avoid alcohol, tobacco and caffeine. Avoid strenuous exercise within three hours of bedtime, and avoid heavy meals before bed. More information about how to get your best night's sleep can be found at www.better sleep.ca. - News Canada Do you know if your asthma is under control?
