One of Oakville's Obstetrician/Gynaecologists, Dr. Andrighetti's warm, vivacious and compassionate personality is as endearing as her smile. She is a wonderful mentor and role model for women everywhere. Dr. Andrighetti grew up in Welland, Ontario where she worked at the local pharmacy during high school. Fascinated by medicine and determined to be a doctor, she went directly into nursing and then applied to medical school. As she was graduating with her Nursing Degree in the spring of 1989, she was accepted into the McMaster University Medical Program. After graduating with her medical degree in 1992, and a year of interning in Internal Medicine, she decided to switch her residency to Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Completing her program in 1997, Dr. Andrighetti joined the medical staff at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) and opened her practice at 358 Reynolds Street in Oakville. "I absolutely love my job. It's the perfect marriage of medicine and surgery," explains Dr. Andrighetti. "I like working with my hands and I thrive on the constant change and unpredictability ­ but most of all, I enjoy connecting with my patients." "Once I have looked after someone during their pregnancy, I can't help getting involved. I actually feel quite disappointed if I'm not on-call when their baby is born," explains Dr. Andrighetti, laughing light-heartedly. "I feel like I have really missed out on the privilege of delivering their child - because it really is an honour to be able to share in those precious moments with a family." Despite her hectic schedule, Dr. Andrighetti makes time to reach out to high school students who come to OTMH for Take Our Kids To Work Day, was a y brilliant participant on the CBC's recent Test the Nation Show and is involved w with various Hospital fundraising events. A strong proponent of women's health, Dr. Andrighetti encourages all women to have regular pap smears and she was instrumental in organizing the first annual Drop in Pap Smear Clinic for HHS c staff which will be held during Nursing Week, on May 11th at OTMH. Dr. Andrighetti is married to Dr. Peter Incze, OTMH Surgeon and they have two very active and athletic children, 10 year old Taylor and eight year old Colton. Coming from a long line of doctors and healthcare professionals, including her father, Dr. Emil Zamora, a psychiatrist in Hamilton and her mother, Kathleen, who was a nurse, Dr. Zamora says she always knew she wanted to be a doctor. Growing up in Stoney Creek, young Mary was off to Queen's University where she completed her medical degree (1985). After a three year combined residency in both emergency medicine and family practice at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Dr. Zamora worked as an Emergency Room (ER) Specialist in Sudbury for a year and a half, and then at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto for three years. In 1992 she took over Dr. Blair Ferguson's family practice at 1235 Trafalgar Road and joined Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) where she worked in the ER until July, 2006. Dr. Zamora also started working as a Hospitalist recently, looking after patients who do not have a family physician to look after them while they are in hospital at OTMH. "Over the years I have thrived on the high energy of the ER and its constant challenges. You have to think on your feet and make snap decisions but your medical interventions - while often critical ­ are somewhat limited," explains Dr. Zamora. "You don't get to see how those patients made out in the long-run." "In my family practice, I really enjoy taking care of multi-generational families and following them through the different phases of their lives ­ being there for them through hard times and celebrating in their joyous occasions," continues Dr. Zamora. "It's important that you always treat the whole person ­ both their emotional and physical health ­ and not just their symptoms. Sometimes that means you have to sort through the person's life to really assess the situation. You can't help getting involved and caring ­ but then, that's what it's really about."
