www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday May 4, 2007 - 19 Police Chief teeing up for D.A.R.E. golf tourney Proceeds to drug education program D.A.R.E. Halton and the Halton Regional Police Service are hosting the 11th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Tuesday May 29 at the Glen Abbey Golf Club. Over the last decade, the tournament has raised more than $100,000 for youth through D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). It's a program that gives kids the skills they need to avoid getting into drugs, alcohol and violence. All net proceeds from the golf tournament will support the D.A.R.E. program, which is offered in partnership with Halton Police to Grade 6 students in Halton. This Halton program is one of the largest of its kind in the country, and involves Halton officers teaching D.A.R.E. curriculum in the classroom. Tickets to the full-day golf tournament are now available at $1,000 per foursome. A limited number of individual spots are also available at $250 apiece. The day begins at 12 p.m. with registration and includes lunch, full day use of the Glen Abbey facilities, 18 holes of golf with a cart, dinner and a silent auction. Community support, corporate sponsors and prizing from local businesses for the auctions are still being sought out for the event. Volunteers available to work the day of the event are also needed.
