Submissions for the 2007 awards are in, and the selection committee is reviewing many excellent nominations. Prior to the June 13 event, we'll profile the 2007 nominees in all seven categories. This year's nominees for the Group Volunteer Award categories are: · Group Volunteer Award Sponsored by Clarica: Recognizes a group of three or more who have volunteered time to a shared goal/activity or event involving leadership, innovation and creativity. Activities or events can benefit all ages. The nominees are: · Acclaim Health, Tele-Touch Volunteer Program nominated by Anne King and Patricia Blakely, Acclaim Health to recognize volunteers who support isolated seniors and people with a disability via telephone reassurance calls. · Carousel of Nations nominated by Paula Simmons. Created in 1999 by the United Way, the multicultural festival has allowed groups and visitors to celebrate multiculturalism by tasting food, arts and crafts displays, and observing traditional entertainment. The event fosters cultural awareness and understanding of the diverse nature not just of Oakville, but of all Halton Region. · Friends of the Oakville Public Library nominated by Eleanor James, Chief Executive Officer, Oakville Public Library. Formally created in 1993 by a group of committed Oakville residents and Library supporters, the Friends' mandate is to foster public awareness, understanding and enjoyChristmas to remember for over 800 underprivileged children in Halton since 1999. · Oakville Literacy Council Used Book Sale Committee nominated by Karen Majerly, Office Manager. This committee is a small group of dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to collect the books for the Council's biggest fundraiser of the year that supports adult learners in bettering skills, enhancing self-confidence, and improving quality of life. · Volunteers of the Fareshare Food Bank Oakville nominated by Dudley Clarke. This non-profit organization and registered charity that has been helping the needy families of Oakville since 1988 is run entirely by volunteers. · The Women's Centre nominated by Andrea Rees and Norma Pennington.
