MADD holds new fundraising walk Every day, on average, approximately four people across Canada are killed by impaired drivers and 190 injured. In the fight against impaired driving, the Halton/Peel chapter of MADD will present its first Strides for Change event to be held Saturday at Erindale Park on Dundas Street in Mississauga. Strides for Change has been designed to be MADD's signature walk event, which offers corporations and individuals the opportunity to enhance the health and safety of the community. Every step taken and pledge raised will not only help raise much needed funds for our chapter, it will also heighten awareness of MADD's programs and services. Take a walk in the park. Take the family. Children will enjoy the "Kids' Zone" and posing for pictures with the Mississauga Fire Department. Peel Regional Police Chief Mike Metcalf will be cutting the ribbon to start the walk. Anyone going out to the chapter's first Strides for Change event will also receive a coupon from the Ontario Academy of Music which is good for two free music or vocal lessons. (While quantities last.) Prizes will be awarded for raising the most money including a Montana acoustic guitar (donated by the Ontario Academy of Music), coupons for free large pizzas (donated by Toppers Pizza), t-shirts, water bottles and more. Stop by the Victim's Tribute Area, the antidrinking and driving displays, try some food and refreshments. Try out the Impaired Driving Simulator and see first hand what impaired driving looks like. Registration for the walk begins at 9 a.m. For more information or pledge forms for the walk call the Oakville MADD office at 905-8440096 or visit www.maddhalton.ca.
