Platoon Chief Dan Stacey, of the Oakville Fire Department, said firefighters removed an elderly woman from a smoke-filled unit at 271 Kerr St. The unconscious woman was transported to Oakville Trafalgar Hospital after efforts by emergency services personnel failed to to revive her at the fire scene, said Stacey. The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called to investigate. Stacey said the fire department received a call at 4:50 p.m. from a neighbour at the apartment building, who was alerted by an alarm from a smoke detector.
