www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday June 9, 2007 - 3 Right at home @ the movies By Angela Blackburn OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF H ow many times does Humphrey Bogart utter "Here's lookin' at you, kid," to Ingrid Bergman in the classic Casablanca? as a project of the arts council. Starting in September the Monday Night @ the Movies' slate of the best of international and Canadian movies will be shown in AMC's large, stadium-style theatres, offering patrons increased choice of seating, comfort and sight-lines. Movies will start half an hour later, at 7:30 p.m., to accommodate commuters who will now have time to grab a bite of dinner before heading out to the theatre that's located at 2081 Winston Park Dr. Tickets will be $8, and go on sale in AMC's lobby at 7 p.m. every screening night -- next season's first half will see screenings on Sept. 10 and 24, Oct. 15 and 29, and Nov. 12 and 26. Monday Night @ the Movies is a member of Film Circuit, a division of The Toronto International Film Festival Group. Film Circuit makes International and Canadian movies available to more than 174 communities across Canada. Among the many credits Warren has under his belt, was as a founding board member of the Oakville Arts Council, its second president, a director of the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts and was involved in the very first show of the Burloak Theatre group's drama series he built some scenery. He also taught a continuing education course on movies at Sheridan College and recently ran a film group discussion for the arts council at Kerr Street's seniors' centre. "He's decided it's finally time to take a real break. To sit back Four, according to Oakville's Peter Warren whose friends and acquaintances affectionately liken him to an encyclopedia -- at least when it comes to the silver screen. Not surprising when he has a whopping 2,500 flicks at home and his rec room is covered in movie posters and memorabilia. That will come in handy, too, as Warren, who, after nearly a dozen years of being brains, brawn (he couriers the film canisters that can weigh nearly 100 lbs.) and everything in between for the Oakville Film Festival, is taking a break -- to relax and maybe watch a flick or two. Warren has been part of the effort to bring the best of international and Canadian cinema to Oakville movie-lovers -- first as a stalwart in the Oakville Film Festival and more recently, its successor, Monday Night @ the Movies, which was established last year. It's a good time for Warren to head home after the show -- to sit back and watch the show. Monday Night @ the Movies has reached its own pinnacle of success -- so much so that in September it will move to the AMC Winston Churchill 24 in Oakville. Previously the festival had used venues like the Showcase theatre in Burlington and Mississauga's Silver City. This past year, Monday night films were shown at Encore Cinemas on Speers Road and it proved so popular, people had to be turned away. That's behind the move to a larger venue, said Warren. Warren is bowing out as Monday Night @ the Movies also becomes a member of the Oakville Arts Council -- Warren noted the local film festival began BARRIE ERSKINE / OAKVILLE BEAVER See Leaving page 10 JUST ASK HIM: Peter Warren a movie and entertainment buff is described as being like an encyclopedia with knowledge, had a play of his made into a movie of the week -- and has 2,500 movies at his home.
