www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday June 9, 2007 - 7 Child flees from burning home The Oakville Fire Department is praising the actions of a child who escaped from a fire in their Pinegrove Road home on Thursday. At approximately 4:11 p.m. the Oakville Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a house fire in a single family dwelling on Pinegrove Road. When fire crews arrived at the house they noticed smoke coming from various main floor windows. The child, who had been home alone at the time of the fire, had escaped the house running next door to a neighbour. "Their actions were fine. You're supposed to do that, go next door and call 911," said Michael Harrison, Public Education Officer with the Oakville Fire Department. The fire was quickly brought under control during which time firefighters conducted a search of the house and confirmed that there were no other occupants present. An examination of the scene has placed the origin of the fire in the living room but at this time the cause of the fire remains unknown. Damage is estimated at around $250,000 with around half that damage to the building and the other half to the contents.
