The rookie councillor made a public statement about the charges he is facing, before Monday's meeting began. "They're completely false. They're without merit," said Khan, noting he is confident people will understand once the circumstances surrounding the charges are disclosed. By Krissie Rutherford OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF 3 YRS 5.64% 5 YRS 5.59% Variable Rate Mortgage -0.95% PRIME Was Helen Arsoniadis' death "the perfect crime"? Or, was it "a tragedy of epic proportions"? That's what a jury will begin to deliberate today, after hearing closing statements yesterday in the trial of George Arsoniadis, charged with second-degree murder in connection to his sister's death on July 3, 2005. That George, 30, caused Helen's death in their newly-rented 40 Old Mill Rd. penthouse, is a fact. That he attempted to conceal it, by dismembering, cutting up, boiling, freezing and disposing of parts of her body, is also a fact. Defence attorney Paul O'Marra told the jury yesterday that his client, who pleaded not guilty, "should not be sanctioned based on his post conduct" because "none of this answers how she died." "In the course of defending himself, he caused her death," O'Marra told the jury. Police were led to his client's apartment days after her death based on reports from neighbours about a putrid odour. George Arsoniadis "I submit to you that what happened on July 3, 2005, was a confluence of unique circumstances and prevailing personalities that resulted in a tragedy of epic proportions."
