16 - The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday June 16, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com ROSES $1800 Big Bike rolls into town IN A VARIETY OF COLOURS ELEGANT LONG STEM /dozen It's not just a big bike, it's huge. It's eight feet wide and 30 feet long -- the size of a school bus. It weighs nearly 2,000 pounds, sports more than 150 feet of bicycle chain and each year participants rack up enough kilometres to almost travel the Trans-Canada Highway -- twice. And it's coming to Oakville on Tuesday, June 26 and again on Saturday, July 7. It is the Heart and Stroke Big Bike and the event of the same name where 30 people pedal the same bike to raise funds so Ontario researchers working in their labs can continue searching for better prevention and treatment for heart disease and stroke. Teamwork, fun, fitness and fundraising for research is what the research, and the Big Bike for Heart event are all about. The Big Bike event sees teams of riders from local businesses collect pledges to ride the Big Bike and receive incentives in return. "The Big Bike for Heart is a key part of our fundraising activities," said Carolyn SeabrookFerguson, Area Manager for the Halton Region Heart and Stroke Foundation. "This year, we're looking to Halton residents and businesses to gather a team together for a really good time and a really great cause," said Seabrook-Ferguson. To register a team or business, contact Robin Gooch at the Halton office at 905-634-7732. For information on Big Bike, visit www.heartandstroke.ca/bigbike.
