Sardana is not satisfied with mere personal success. As a student, musician and athlete, he shares his enthusiasm with others and works hard to pass on the skills and knowledge he has acquired. "This genuine interest in the accomplishments of others is what allows me to be successful," he says. As concert master of the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Sardana is responsible for spreading a passion for music among his peers and bringing out the best in them. This devotion is also evident in his commitment to Abbey Park's badminton team, where he led the team to the 2005 Halton Finals. He is also a student coordinator with the Literacy and Mathematical Minds program, where he helps tutor younger students with math and reading difficulties. Sardana plans to study math and business. When the Girl Guides decided to open up a unit in an abused woman's shelter, few leaders could be found who were willing to make such a year-round commitment. Determined to make sure the project went ahead, SchumannJohns took on the responsibility of planning meetings and preparing crafts for the unit, and stuck to the task even when others' interest waned. Schumann-Johns has also volunteered at Kerry's Place Autism Camp. Working one-on-one with children with severe autism, she learned that she would need patience and resolve to overcome setbacks. By the end of the camp, she was able to connect with her charges, an experience which has made her a stronger leader. Schumann-Johns has also volunteered with the Rotary Club in Ghana, where she participated in a campaign to immunize children against polio. She is also a member of the school choir, and a member of the Global Issues Council. She plans on a career as a special education teacher.
