For the first time, Alliance Française de Toronto/Mississauga and Oakville Galleries are combining their expertise in teaching French as a second language and in delivering high-quality art programs to provide children with a series of multidisciplinary and handson learning activities "en Français." The camp activities combine half days of French language learning activities taught by a teacher from the Alliance Française with half days of art activities taught in French by a bilingual art instructor from Oakville Galleries. Through the program, children will develop their creativity, improve technical skills, increase their knowledge in art and their French speaking while enjoying outdoor activities in the amazing site of Gairloch Gardens, right on the lakeshore. The pre-required level of French for this camp is Grade 3 French immersion, although other requests will be evaluated. This program is highly recommended for students registered at school in the Immersion program. There are three week-long sessions beginning in July. Each runs a full day from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. Session 1, Aeroplane, runs from July 16-20. Session 2, Bright Lights, goes from July 23-27 and the final session, Technologies, runs July 30 through Aug. 3. The Watoto Children's Choir is bringing a taste of Africa to Oakville on July 8. The choir of singers from Uganda is on a sixmonth Canadian tour to raise awareness and support for Watoto Child Care Ministries. It's a childsponsorship organization that cares for Ugandan children left orphaned by the AIDS epidemic, civil strife and other catastrophic events. Approximately 2 million children in Uganda have been orphaned by these events. More than 880,000 Ugandan children have lost one or both of their parents to AIDS. Watoto cares for approximately 1,500 children, and has a goal to care for 10,000 in the future. Watoto villages are built to become self-sustaining. Each village consists of homes for the children, a school, a medical clinic, a community centre, and an agricultural project. The Watoto Children's Choir's Concert of Hope features exotic African rhythm and harmonies accented by brilliant Ugandan costumes and inspirational stories from the children of Watoto Children's Villages. The Watoto Children's Choir will perform on Sunday, July 8 at 10 a.m. at the Evangel Pentecostal Church, 1450 Rebecca St. For more information, visit www.watoto.ca. The concert is free and open to the public. Free will offering will be taken. e! se ook el om ew C rn ou www.oakvillebeaver.com Embrace your independence.
