On the evening of Thursday, June 14 the Halton Regional Police Service was contacted by a security company that was monitoring video surveillance of a new home construction site in the area of Falling Green Drive. Police say, that upon their arrival at the scene they discovered a man with a metal cutting tool. They also found a large amount of the copper piping installed in the new homes had been deliberately removed. Approximately $15,000 worth of copper piping was found stacked nearby. Christopher Allan Vaughan, 33, of Mississauga was charged with theft of a value over $5,000 and mischief to property of a value over $5,000 in connection with the incident. Police said an accomplice was able to flee the area prior to being located. The second incident, which is apparently unrelated, took place earlier in the evening in the area of South Service Road in Oakville. Oakville Hydro had been doing work in the area and had a large amount of aluminum wiring at the job site. Police say, an alert supervisor was driving home when he spotted a suspicious man with a pickup truck at the site. Closer investigation revealed the man was cutting the aluminum wiring into smaller lengths and placing them into the rear of the pickup truck. The supervisor used his digital camera to photograph the man and a truck, which left the area with approximately $6,500 worth of aluminum wiring. Neal Allan Paul, 25, of Halton Hills, is charged with theft over $5,000 and breach of a probation order in connection with the incident.
