Town offers tree survey online The Town of Oakville has launched an online survey to collect opinions from Oakville residents about the protection of trees on private property. Currently, trees on public property and trees on private woodlots over 0.5 hectares are protected by the Town or Regional bylaws; however, more than half of Oakville's urban trees are on private properties. "Our urban forest is a valuable asset. Trees not only enhance the attractiveness of our community, but they also reduce the effects of pollution on our environment," Mayor Rob Burton said. "We want the public's opinion on how best to protect these trees." The survey is available online until Aug. 15 at www.oakville.ca. Public internet access is available at Oakville Public Library branches and at Town Hall kiosks just inside the main entrance. Survey results will be reported at a public meeting in September. The survey and public consultation will be used for educational purposes and by Town Council to assess next steps. The Town of Oakville was designated as the 2007 Forestry Capital of Canada by the Canadian Forestry Association for its commitment to the strategic management of its urban forest, demonstrating stewardship and sound practices toward sustainable forest development, management and conservation. · Furnaces · Air Conditioners · Air Cleaners · Humidifiers · Duct Cleaning BRENMAR HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING L TD. 905-608-9330 1-866-852-9330 www.brenmar.ca
