www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 29, 2007 - 23 Film creators return home to shoot film Oakville Galleries camp teaches art with French flavour French as a second language and art are coming together this summer at Oakville Galleries. For the first time, Alliance Française de Toronto/Mississauga and Oakville Galleries are combining their expertise in teaching French as a second language and in delivering high-quality art programs to provide children with a series of multidisciplinary and hands-on learning activities "en Français." The camp activities combine half days of French language learning activities taught by a teacher from the Alliance Française with half days of art activities taught in French by a bilingual art instructor from Oakville Galleries. Through the program, children will develop their creativity, improve technical skills, increase their knowledge in art and their French speaking while enjoying outdoor activities in the amazing site of Gairloch Gardens, right on the lakeshore. The pre-required level of French for this camp is Grade 3 French immersion, although other requests will be evaluated. This program is highly recommended for students registered at school in the Immersion program. There are three week-long sessions beginning in July. Each runs a full day from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. Session 1, Aeroplane, runs from July 16-20. Session 2, Bright Lights, goes from July 23-27 and the final session, Technologies, runs July 30 through Aug. 3. The weekly cost is $300, or $278.50 for Friends of Oakville Galleries. There is a maximum 15 participants per session. Early drop-off from 8-9 a.m. and after-hour service from 4-5 p.m. are available for an additional cost. For more information and for registration, contact Shaun Dacey, Youth Program Co-ordinator at 905-844-4402, ext. 23 or shaun@oakvillegalleries.com. Continued from page 22 making the choices that will really impact their lives," Azzopardi said. "In a fraction of a second, things can change," added Cohen. As for the ending, "you don't really know what happens," the director said. "It ends in the middle." Rewind was shot over three days starting last Saturday at a local home and at Appleby College. The local flavour in the film continues with businesses in the area helping out by donating meals, including Rocco's Plum Tomato and other catering services. A local police officer, a homeowner, neighbours, Appleby College and more are on the list of the film crew's people to thank. "We had a lot of people give us their services for free," said Merrick, who added the film is a "low-budget or no-budget project." "The community has just been wonderful." Thanks to Toronto Indie Production (TIP), low-budget projects like Rewind are able to secure solid actors, who get involved for "a fraction of what they'd normally be paid," Cohen explained. "They're doing it because they really like the project. These films truly are made on the generosity of people in the industry, as well as friends and family. They're not doing it for the money, but for the love of filmmaking." The same can be said of Cohen, Azzopardi and Merrick. "You don't do short films so you can really sell it, really," said Cohen. "As emerging filmmakers, it's really a labour of love."
