Appropriate to the occasion will be the march Glorious and Free by associate conductor Kevin Norbury, which has O Canada as its theme. One of the solo attractions will be cornetist Robert Venables playing Summertime from George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. As always at its concerts, Intrada Brass CDs will be on sale. Jazz fundraiser for Oakville Arts Council Toronto jazz artist William Carn is playing an intimate concert tonight to raise funds for the Oakville Arts Council (OAC). He will be appearing at CJ's Café in Bronte between 8-11 p.m. Carn has put together a trio for the evening, bringing a bassist and guitarist to accompany him. The event is a fundraiser for the Oakville Arts Council. Tickets cost $20, which includes light refreshments, and a cash bar. A Juno Award nominee, bandleader and trombonist, Carn has emerged as one of Canada 's leading contemporary jazz composers and performers. His debut release, Other Stories, was nominated for a 2007 Juno Award as Traditional Jazz Album of the Year. He has performed and recorded with jazz artists such as Rob McConnell, Randy Brecker, David Binney, Kenny Wheeler, Barry Harris, Jane Bunnett, Kevin Mahogany, Mike Murley, Hilario Duran, Andrew Downing, Bernie Senensky, Don Thompson, and Phil Dwyer. Carn is a Yamaha artist and clinician as well as an instructor for both the University of Toronto Jazz Studies program and Humber College. He is currently a member of several ensembles. Canada Day Concert at King's Christian Collegiate A Canada Day Celebration for the entire family will be held at King's Christians Collegiate, located at Neyagawa Boulevard and Burnhamthorpe Road. On Sunday, July 1 there will be a music concert with acclaimed artist Jacob Moon at 1 p.m., and a magic show at 2:30 p.m. with comedian and entertainer Matt Desiro.
