In addition to the Post Office, the building also housed the Customs Office and Frank N. Kyle's drug store. Mr. Cote lived at 350 Lakeshore Road from 1901 to 1919, however, the original building is estimated to date to approximately 1868 when records indicate his father, Louis Cote, first purchased the property. Previous renovations to the building revealed that this was originally a one storey house and in 1901 when Louis V. Cote acquired the property, he also took out a mortgage likely indicating when the second storey was added. Contextually, the property marks the eastern anchor of historic downtown Oakville. During the 18 years Mr. Cote resided at 350 Lakeshore Road East, the Post Office and Postmaster played a significant role in the community and several references are made to him in historical texts of Oakville. This PIC has been arranged to allow members of the public to review the study process, the study need and justification and potential sites under consideration for the North Satellite Operations Depot and Patrol Yard. Members of the public are encouraged to attend this information centre and to provide their views and comments for consideration as the study progresses. McCormick Rankin Corporation will undertake this study on behalf of the Town of Oakville. The study is being conducted in accordance with Schedule `C' of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (June 2000), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. Consultation will take place throughout the study with external agencies, property owners and the public, including Public Information Centres (PICs) at two study milestones. A second PIC, planned for later in 2007, will present the analysis / evaluation of the potential sites and the preferred site and layout for the North Satellite Operations Depot and Patrol Yard. Although the property has undergone several renovations, the basic structure of the home is substantially intact and it is structurally sound. Any objection to this designation must be filed within 30 days of July 18, 2007 being the date of publication of the notice of intention to designate. As a result of concerns raised, Town Council, at its meeting of November 27, 2006, directed staff to provide a report with respect to roomers and boarders within the Town of Oakville. In response to the report, Town Council, at its meeting of NOTICE OF INTENTION TO DESIGNATE 350 Lakeshore Road East, Oakville TAKE NOTICE that Oakville Town Council, on July 10, 2007, passed a Resolution of intent to designate 350 Lakeshore Road East under Section 29 of The Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. 18, as a property of cultural heritage value and interest. The Louis Cote (Postmaster) House is located on the south side of Lakeshore Road East and the west side of Allan Street. The property is approximately 0.05 ha in area with a frontage of approximately 15.8 m along Lakeshore Road East. The cultural heritage value of the Louis Cote house lies in it being the former residence of Louis Vincent Cote. Mr. Cote served as Oakville's fifth Postmaster from 1901 to 1937 and built Oakville's fourth Post Office in 1910 at 221 Lakeshore NOTICE OF STUDY COMMENCEMENT & PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE #1 North Satellite Operations Depot and Patrol Yard Class Environmental Assessment The Town of Oakville has initiated a study to establish a new North Satellite Operations Depot and Patrol Yard. As the population and developed area increases in the northern area of Oakville, a new Depot and Patrol Yard is required to meet increased service demands and to minimize travel times for operations and maintenance crews to maintain the Town's road infrastructure & parklands/open space assets. This study will review potential sites for this new facility within the area outlined in the map.
